FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 27 2012 –
Former State Senator Mike Michot, a graduate of Leadership Lafayette Class V, is the recipient of the inaugural Distinguished Alumnus Award presented by the Leadership Institute of Acadiana (LIA). The award recognized Michot as exemplifying the program’s
original mission of “Creating Leaders for Tomorrow.”
The award was part of the Silver Anniversary Social of Leadership Lafayette held January 25 at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette.
In presenting the award to his Leadership classmate, LIA Board member David Strother called Senator Michot “a true public servant through his honorable career in the state legislature.”
The social also featured a history of Leadership Lafayette’s origins with recognition of the
founding Board of Trustees and the Heymann Foundation for providing scholarships during the program’s start-up years.
Leadership Lafayette was established in 1984 by the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. In 2010, the Leadership Institute of Acadiana was created to oversee
Leadership Lafayette, Lafayette Junior Leadership and the Alumni programs. The social is an introduction of the incoming Leadership Lafayette Class XXV. Participants will begin the annual curriculum with a retreat in February, and includes attendance at
the Chamber’s Building Community Conference in March.
