The Leadership Institute of Acadiana, in partnership with One Acadiana, is accepting applications until Friday, April 1 for participation in Lafayette Junior Leadership.
Lafayette Junior Leadership is a youth leadership program for high school juniors attending public, private or home school in Lafayette Parish. The Leadership Institute of Acadiana is encouraging high school sophomores to apply, so they can participate in their junior year.
The program strives to create an exceptional and educational experience for its participants while empowering them to become the next generation of leaders.
“The hope is that in learning about what it takes to be a leader and what makes Acadiana unique, these young men and women will be empowered to assume leadership positions in their own community as they become available,” said current Junior Leadership Co-Chair Anne Falgout. “We are starting the pipeline of smart, talented visionaries Lafayette needs progress and grow.”
Those selected will attend nine sessions from August to April. Session days cover topics such as parish government, social services, volunteerism, healthcare, technology, college survival and state government. Students learn leadership and problem solving skills, meet students from other local schools and have meaningful discussions.
The program will accept approximately twenty-five students. The program ends with a graduation celebration to which family and friends are invited. Tuition is $150 and is due upon acceptance into the program. Students may also request scholarships to participate.
Junior Leadership is now entering its 26th year. It is one of three programs administered by the Leadership Institute of Acadiana as part of a partnership with OneAcadiana. The other two programs are Leadership Lafayette and Intro Lafayette.
