What Is It?

Lafayette Junior Leadership is a unique youth leadership program designed to educate, inspire, and retain future leaders for our community. Sophomores enrolled in private, public, or home-school in Lafayette Parish are eligible and encouraged to apply for the program.

This youth leadership program is offered to high school Juniors over a 9-month period. A one-day retreat opens the program and is followed by 8 monthly full-day sessions held in September through April, with a graduation ceremony in May. Monthly sessions are held from 7:45 am to 3 pm. Students learn leadership and problem solving skills, meet students from other schools in their community, and have worthwhile discussions on community enhancement and leaving an impact.

Student applications are available in the spring of participant’s Sophomore year of high school. The application is highly-competitive and between 25-30 students are accepted each year.

If accepted, program tuition is $200. Tuition assistance is available.

Program Goals

The Lafayette Junior Leadership program is designed to convene, build, and activate young leaders. Through participation in the program, students will:

  1. Cultivate an appreciation for diverse perspectives
  2. Develop personal leadership skills
  3. Discover your local community, history, and culture
  4. Spark your long-term civic engagement
